ASTP and The Sequoia Project Designate Netsmart as QHIN

TEFCAā„¢ Expands as RCE Continues To Onboard QHINs and Grow Nationwide Health IT Interoperability, Now Connecting Nearly 9,000 Organizations Nationwide

(Vienna, VA – August 5, 2025) – Today, The Sequoia Project, as the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common AgreementTMĀ (TEFCATM) Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCEĀ®), on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP), announces the designation of Netsmart as the tenth Qualified Health Information NetworkĀ® (QHINā„¢).

Netsmart joins nine other designated QHINs that serve as the backbone for TEFCA, including CommonWell Health Alliance, eClinicalWorks, eHealth Exchange, Epic Nexus, Health Gorilla, Kno2, KONZA Health, Surescripts Health Information Network, and MedAllies.

ā€œAs the TEFCA framework continues to gain QHINs such as Netsmart, health data sharing across the country grows,ā€ said Mariann Yeager, CEO for The Sequoia Project and RCE lead. ā€œIncreasingly, health data is in the hands of the people who need it to help promote better care, which benefits patients and supports public health. We applaud Netsmart and all the designated QHINs for their roles in making TEFCA successful.ā€

To date, more than 26 million documents have been shared through TEFCA exchange. There are 8,958 organizations live on TEFCA, including QHINs and their Participants and Subparticipants connecting more than 35,000 sites. An interactive map to search for participants is now available on the RCE website.

The RCE continues to onboard and designate new QHINs while focusing on adoption of TEFCA-based health information sharing, advancing the FHIRĀ® Roadmap for TEFCA exchange, rolling-out additional exchange purposes, and establishing governance bodies with the TEFCA community and ASTP.
